At Burstead Bears we use an online system known as Tapestry to record the children’s development at nursery. Tapestry is a secure app that can be accessed on a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or computer. Tapestry allows us to upload photos, videos, and observations of your child, as well as recording their meals, naptimes, and nappy changes. You will receive an email alert each time something new has been added to your child’s Online Learning Journal, keeping you updated continuously throughout the day. You may also add your own comments and entries which will instantly be shared with your child’s key person.
Safeguarding children is our highest priority at Burstead Bears and therefore choosing the right app was incredibly important to us. Anything added to your child’s Online Learning Journal can only be viewed by the management team, the practitioners working alongside your child, and the parent/carer assigned to the account. It is crucial that you do not share photos or videos from your child’s account on social media, or any other similar platforms. Incidents in which confidentiality is broken will result in access to Tapestry being withdrawn.

Why use an online system?
Handwritten work is very time consuming. Moving to online allows us to spend even more time with the children, supporting their development.
How do I get onto the system?
We will set up your account for you and provide you with your own unique log in details. Tapestry is a free app that can be downloaded onto your smartphone or tablet. Alternatively you can access your account online at: https://tapestryjournal.com.
I don’t have a computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. How can I access Tapestry?
If you are unable to access your child’s Online Learning Journal at home you will be able to agree a time with your child’s key person to come and view it here at the nursery. Information regarding mealtimes, naptimes and nappy changes will be recorded in a home contact book, as before.
I am not very confident online, is the app easy to use?
The app is very user friendly and it’s ease is one of the reasons we chose to go with Tapestry. Should you have any problems a member of the management team will be more than happy to help you.
Why do you need my email address?
Without your email address we cannot set up your child’s Online Learning Journal. It also allows the app to send you notifications each time something new has been added to your account.
